Welcome

This is Saeloun

We build software for a living. We do it well, and we care about doing it right. This handbook is how we work.

Saeloun is a software consulting company. We partner with companies to build, improve, and scale their applications. Our team works primarily with Ruby on Rails and React, and we are active contributors to the open-source ecosystem.

We are based in Pune, India and Boston, USA. We work remotely. We have been doing this since 2019.

This handbook explains how we think about our work, how we communicate, and what we expect from each other. Read it on your first day. Come back to it when you need clarity.

Philosophy

How We Think

We ship code we are proud of. That means pull requests get real reviews, not rubber stamps. It means we write tests before we call something done. It means we would rather ship on Tuesday than ship broken on Friday.

We are a consulting company. That means we work on other people's problems, and we treat those problems like our own. The best consultants are the ones clients forget are consultants.

We believe in the craft. Good software is not an accident. It comes from people who care about naming things well, writing clear commit messages, keeping dependencies updated, and leaving code better than they found it.

Values

What We Value

Ship Quality

We do not cut corners on code quality. Tests, reviews, clean architecture. Every time.

Own Your Work

If you built it, you own it. That includes the bugs, the deploy, and the follow-up.

Stay Curious

Read the release notes. Try the new thing. Write about what you learned. Teach someone else.

Give Back

We contribute to Rails, write technical blogs, and speak at conferences. This is not optional.

Say It Clearly

Write complete thoughts. Use real words. If your message needs a follow-up to be understood, rewrite it.

People

People Come First

We are a company built by people who chose to be here. Every person at Saeloun shapes our culture, our reputation, and the quality of our work.

Take your vacations. Attend the family wedding. If you are burned out, say so. We would rather you take a week off and come back sharp than push through and write code nobody can maintain.

Long careers are built on sustainable pace, not heroics.
