Day One

Getting Started

Your first week is about getting set up, meeting the team, and understanding how we work. No one expects you to ship code on day one.

Checklist

First Week Checklist

Paperwork

  • Send a signed consultant agreement if you have not already.
  • Confirm access to your Saeloun email account.
  • Email Sonam your bank account details and PAN information.

GitHub

Once you are added to the Saeloun org, you will get a flood of notification emails. Fix this immediately:

  • Go to GitHub notification settings and turn off email for repos you are not working on.
  • Set your display name to your real name (e.g. "John Smith").
  • Add a real profile photo. Not an avatar. Not a cartoon.
  • Set Company to @saeloun in your GitHub profile.

Slack

  • Log in to the Saeloun workspace.
  • Update your email to your Saeloun address.
  • Upload your real profile picture.
  • Join all channels at first. Leave the ones that are noise after a week.

Miru (Time Tracking)

We use Miru to track time on client projects. You will get access after onboarding. Log your time daily, not weekly. Weekly time entries are fiction.

Website Profile

Add yourself to the company website repo on GitHub and submit a PR to Sonam. Use a professional photo with a solid background and your face clearly visible.

Professional Profiles

Update LinkedIn, GitHub, and optionally Twitter to reflect your role at Saeloun.

Equipment

Laptop & Setup

Saeloun provides a MacBook Pro to full-time employees. Delivery may take time depending on procurement. If needed, use your personal laptop temporarily. Sonam coordinates delivery.

Get a good pair of headphones with a microphone. Built-in laptop mics cause echo and make meetings miserable for everyone else. We use Slack, Zoom, and Google Meet for calls.

Passport

Have a valid passport ready. Travel opportunities come up for conferences, client meetings, and company events. Do not be the person who misses a trip because of paperwork.
